If the kidney stone has passed down the urinary tract, pain intensifies. And then suddenly, one day the body causes the most unbearable pain of all – the Renal Colic . This pain is characteristic of kidney stones.
Renal Colic – The Kidney Stones Pain
A deep excruciating pain occurs in the flank to groin region of the body. It is intermittent, that is it comes and goes, intensifying and attenuating in cycles. Each pain cycle usually lasts a few minutes. Then you get some relief from the pain for a few minutes to a few hours. However, the pain is so intense, it leaves the person exhausted from it.
Other symptoms which may come with kidney stones are blood in urine ( usually caused by the painful edges of the stone scraping the sensitive wall), nausea, vomiting and feeling of unease. Kidney stones can be relieved by eating foods or taking drinks which erode the stone and make it smaller and smaller to pass. Diuretic foods help to increase urine production to help throw out the stone. You may experience pain while using the home remedies, but they work most of the times.

How do you get kidney stones ?
These are caused by crystallization of minerals in the urine. Most of us know that calcium has the tendency to crystallize in presence of oxalate to form calcium oxalate stones. But there are kidney stones made of sodium, uric acid, struvite and many others. Each kind of stone requires a specific pH environment to form. However, the main reason for crsytallization and kidney stone formation is probably lack of water or dehydration. This prompts minerals in solution to precipitate out as solids. So, the key to preventing kidney stones formation may be as simple as drinking more water. Better kidney functioning is also helpful.
