Israel Figa Believes the World Is Still Not Ready for another Pandemic

The efforts are underway all around the world to put an end to the current coronavirus pandemic. Vaccines are out and in the year to come, things will be much better than they are right now. At least, you can hope for the best with so many vaccines out there and most of them performing really well against the coronavirus. However, Israel Figa believes that despite all the great efforts that people and governments are putting into to curbing the spread of the coronavirus even further are not enough to stop another pandemic from coming and wreaking havoc around the world.

He believes that we are just as vulnerable to another pandemic or epidemic as we were to COVID-19. What are the factors that make him think like that? Let’s find out in this detailed explanation that he recently gave.

People and Governments Are Not on the Same Page

As per Israel Figa, the first issue that became emergent during the current pandemic was the incompatibility between people and their governments. He believes that it became apparent recently that the governments don’t have their people in control or they are not on the same page. While one side feels it should protect the other, the other side does not trust it at all. That’s what has worsened the conditions around the world. The US is the best example of how the incompatibility between the government and the people has resulted in millions getting infected in a matter of a few months.

For people to be safe and follow SOPs, they have to be in a position to trust their governments first. That’s now what’s been seen in the current and previous years. If you look at the conditions in 2020, you will realize that people were not listening to the governments as they kept thinking that their governments were cooking some conspiracy against them.

Healthcare Infrastructures Are Weak

It was believed that the big nations and developed countries of the world had some solid and reliable healthcare systems. However, the coming of the current pandemic showed greatly that it was not the case. You have the biggest countries of the world suffering the most right now. Take the example of the UK, the US, India, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, etc. and you have a clear picture of what is going on in these countries and regions. They have behaved in the same way as small countries did in the face of the pandemic. They have hospitals full of patients with not enough beds.

Ventilators have seen the heaviest use during this pandemic and it seems from the current situation in most countries that none of these countries had enough ventilators to meet the increasing demand. In other words, the coronavirus pandemic has pulled the cat out of the bag and it is clear that even the biggest and strongest countries of the world are not ready for another pandemic like this.

Poverty Remains a Barrier

In the light of the current situation, it is very easy to come to the conclusion that poverty is a barrier to all the efforts in curbing the pandemic, and it will remain a barrier in times to come. Think about it, you have people who did not follow SOPs or stayed in their homes in many countries because they earn daily wages? How could they stay at homes due to the virus when they knew they couldn’t live without earning their daily wages? Furthermore, a huge population in the world is so poor that affording disinfectants and hand sanitizers is nearly impossible for them.

Final Thoughts

It is clear from the words of Israel Figa that we are clearly not ready for another pandemic. How can we say we are when we are already struggling to hard against COVID-19? We have developed vaccines, but it does not mean we have overcome one of the biggest challenges in the history of the world.
